"As a successful artist and activist, Peter Yarrow’s talent is legendary. His gift for songwriting has produced some of the most moving songs Peter, Paul & Mary have recorded, including Puff, The Magic Dragon, Day Is Done, The Great Mandala and Light One Candle. His musical creativity has always gone hand in hand with his commitment to social justice and equity in society. And today, he’s reaching a whole new generation with his music and advocacy."

Consecutive national recognition of work in cancer genetics and prevention at McGill and the Jewish General Hospital! Dr. Michael Pollak was awarded the prestigious O. Harold Warwick Prize by the Canadian Cancer Society in 2012 and Dr. William Foulkes received it in 2013. This prize is given to "A scientist whose research has had a major impact on cancer control". Nominations are received from across Canada, so we are proud that two of our senior clinician scientists with neighboring offices in the same institution captured the award two years in a row, reflecting national recognition of our research work.

Dr. Pollak co-chaired the Metabolism, Diet and Disease 2014: Cancer and Metabolism meeting in Washington, DC, which was held on May 28, 2014 to May 30, 2014. This meeting brought together international experts in the field.

In 2013, Dr. Pollak was elected to be a Member of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences (CAHS).

He organized and lectured at the 2013 Banbury Center Meeting on Biguanides and Neoplasia at the Cold Spring Harbor in New York, which was held in October 2013.

Dr. Pollak was awarded the 2012 Aisenstadt award for academic achievement by the Jewish General Hospital / McGill faculty.

He was among the 100 world experts invited to attend the recent “think tank” on global cancer control held in Lugano, Switzerland, in order to prepare a consensus statement for World Cancer Day on February 4, 2013. For further information, please visit the World Oncology Forum
