It is with great pride that the JGH Archives present Jewish General Hospital Auxiliary : celebrating 75 years of excellence on the occasion of The Auxiliary's 75th anniversary. The online exhibit is prepared to accompany the physical display currently set up in the main lobby of the hospital.

JGH Historical Photo Quiz
As part of the Health Sciences Libraries Open House events that took place May 9 & 10, 2011, the JGH Archives prepared a historical photo quiz. JGH staff from various departments enthusiastically participated and those who answered between five to eight questions correctly won prizes. If you missed the event, the quiz is now available on-line. Test yourself and find out how much you know about your Hospital!

In Celebration of the 100th International Women's Day: profile of Taube Kaplan
The JGH Archives is celebrating the 100th International Women’s Day by featuring Taube Kaplan, founder of the Hebrew Maternity Hospital as well as one of the leading fundraisers for the establishment of the Jewish General Hospital in 1934.

Discovering new collections: Department Chiefs
A sampling from a newly acquired collection of framed portraits of former department chiefs is now available for viewing. The collection will be integrated into the JGH Archives' photographic collection and will be accessible to researchers upon request.

Discovering new collections: Samuel Cohen
Julia Betts, former Cataloguer and Archives Technician at the JGH Archives was very busy this past summer cataloguing, arranging and digitizing collections from various departments. One of the more interesting collections she recently organized is the Samuel Cohen (1900-2000) personal fonds, which includes correspondence, pamphlets, publications, mementos, among other forms of documents.

Poster presentation at the Association of Canadian Archivists (ACA) Annual Conference, Halifax, NS
The JGH Archives was selected to present a poster entitled Digitizing a Legacy: The Jewish General Hospital Archives at the June 12 Poster Session of the ACA Annual Conference in Halifax, NS. Many ideas were exchanged on ways in which hospitals can promote access to their historical archives via the Web and exhibitions. Having launched its new website, the JGH Archives will continue to add content as well as digitize new collections and encourage access to records through online and physical exhibition spaces.

Association of Canadian Jewish Archives and Museums (ACJAM)
On June 2, the JGH Archives presented a paper entitled From internal database to the World Wide Web to ACJAM members from across Canada. At this first mini-conference, members "shared experiences, knowledge and visions to ensure the security and sustainibilty of their organizations". The JGH Archives is excited to have participated in the events and looks forward to collaboration with the ACJAM.

On the Road Again: The Jewish General Hospital at 75: A Retrospective
The JGH Archives exhibition which toured Montreal in 2009 to coincide with the celebration of the Hospital's 75th anniversary is on the road again! The Jewish General Hospital at 75: A Retrospective will be presented at the "Congress of Social and Humanity Sciences" Conference in Concordia University's new John Molson School of Business building.

E-version of Our Tribute Everlasting
The JGH Archives has undertaken the initiative to digitize Our Tribute Everlasting by Alexander Wright, which was published in 1984 to commemorate the Hospital’s 50th anniversary. The book consists of eleven chapters as well as bibliographic notes. An excellent resource for those interested in the early years of health care conditions for Jews in Montreal and the history of the JGH, the e-version of Our Tribute Everlasting is available now on the left menu of the website.

The JGH Archives website was launched to bring you the distinguished past of the Jewish General Hospital since its inception in 1934. This database-driven website provides you with the ability to conduct keyword searches for digitized archival materials, browse photographs on popular topics, search for the first donors who helped found the JGH in 1929, and order reproductions of historical photos.
