Patients who do not have a family doctor can benefit from extended hours at the Herzl Walk-In Centre

Montreal October 23, 2017 – A superclinic since September 5, the Herzl Walk-In Centre at the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) has extended its hours of high quality front line services to meet the needs of more patients. This superclinic designation (administrative term for a network Family Medicine Groups - FMG) is "very good news for patients without a family doctor", declares Dr. Juan Gardie Suarez, the Medical Director of the Centre, an institution member of the Integrated Health and Social Services University (CIUSSS) Network for West-Central-Montreal.

Since 2009, the Herzl Walk-In Centre has met the needs of individuals who do not have access to a family doctor and who do not require urgent care.

"Doctors practicing in many Family Medicine Groups of our territory are also participating in this change, and this means that their patients will be able to be seen here, if necessary", adds Dr. Gardie Suarez. "This collaboration will be greatly beneficial for the community we serve on this territory".

"By extending the hours of the Herzl Walk-In Centre, CIUSSS West-Central Montreal is providing even better access to care for individuals who lack a family doctor, or whose family physician is unavailable," says Dr. Lawrence Rosenberg, President and CEO of the CIUSSS. "In this way, we are fulfilling two of our healthcare network's key objectives: making the needs of patients our primary focus, and making access quicker and easier for a wide range of heathcare and social services."

The Herzl Walk-In Centre consists of a multidisciplinary team providing front line services as well as blood tests and medical imaging, if needed.

The superclinic designation implies that the Centre is now open 12 hours, 7 days per week, from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Centre joins the network of some fifty other superclinics designated by the Ministry of Health and Social Services which will be fully deployed before the end of 2018.
