McGill's VPN (Virtual Private Network) allows you to access McGill restricted sites such as library databases, e-journals and other web pages when you connect to the Internet with an external ISP (e.g., Videotron or Bell Sympatico) For more detailed information Virtual Private Network.
Eligibility
All McGill staff, students (including Residents), and JGH full time staff (McGill Affiliates) are eligible for a Virtual Private Network account.
Registration form
To register print out the McGill IT Services/Email form, and bring it to the Library. This form is also available in the Library. The form must be signed by the Chief Medical Librarian and sent to McGill. Affiliates must re-register annually.
McGill will contact you within 48 hours with a McGill username and McGill password, which will allow you to access many online services including email through the Exchange server.
How to access McGill's VPN
VPN works by letting the McGill network know that your IP address has permission to access McGill's electronic resources. In order for this to work you will need to configure your operating system (select your operating system from the list and follow the instructions). The process is easy and takes only a few minutes. You will need your McGill username and password (see above).
Accessing Mcgill's Web VPN from a public computer
You can also connect remotely to most of McGill's electronic resources from public computers without going through the configuration process. Log in here from anywhere in the world.
McGill staff and students with IDs
The library can process these accounts immediately providing you know your McGill ID number.
DAS (Dialup Access Service)
McGill’s Dialup Access Service has been discontinued as of December 2010. An Internet provider such as Videotron or Sympatico is now required to access McGill’s eResources.
